Jmol
Jmol is a viewer molecules free and open source for students,
teachers and researchers in chemistry and biochemistry. It is
multi-platform compatible with Windows, Mac OS X and Linux / Unix.
The Protein Data Bank
Protein Data Bank (PDB) (Protein Data Bank) is a database in 3-D structure
of proteins and nucleic acids. These data, usually obtained by X-ray
crystallography or Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, are sent by biologists
and biochemists around the world. They are under the public domain and
can be used freely.
The X-ray crystallography is a technique consisting of passing a beam of X-rays through a crystal of the substance under study. The beam is divided in several directions due to the symmetry of the grouping of atoms and, by diffraction, resulting in a pattern of intensities that can be interpreted as the location of atoms in the crystal, applying the law Bragg.
The magnetic resonance imaging or MRI (also called nuclear magnetic resonance or NMR) is a physical phenomenon based on the magnetic properties that possess atomic nuclei. MRI allows align the magnetic fields from different nuclei in the direction of an external magnetic field. The answer to this external field depends on the type of atomic nuclei, so that this technique can be used to obtain information about a sample.
